…and the movie is like 17 years old?
I know it was in 3-D, but so the fudge what? If it wasn’t in 3-D and released normally like it was when I saw it at eight, I bet that it would still would have gone #1.
Goes to show you that The Lion King as a story will never go out of style—-and that movies suck now. It’s like we can’t recapture this, that we have to resort to recycling stuff from our youths. Not all new films suck, but the ones that get all the fancy trailers and studio backing, this box-office number just shines a bigger light on the suckage.
Obviously the re-release was to make some money off of one of Disney’s biggest hits (recession, hello!), but a 17-year-old movie shouldn’t be taking #1 when there were other things that got released for the first time. That should be a wake-up call.
