“…just like you, I get lonely too…”
(some of) 90’s R&B Girl Groups B&W
Has it really been 20 years? *sigh* Ignore the fashion for a second but these groups could sing (except for Total who sounded like drowning cats but still love them) and they had presence plus their own signature style. Now everyone sounds or looks the same.
Okay. I’m an old.
When most of these groups were at their peak, I was in high school.
I miss girl groups. Bring em back please.
This just depressed the fuck out of me, there is no female r&b singer that can match this right now (no beyonce’s melisma happy ass does not count), real singing dammit.
Never was a fan of Xscape, but yes…we are a culturally-deprived due to the lack of R&B girl groups nowadays. Shit, R&B is on life support in general.
This isn’t even HALF of the R&B girl groups out in the 90’s—-but these are the essentials. It’s a bit depressing that R&B has taken the turn it’s taken and I’m not blaming the pop/club music (music always evolves from different styles and that’s just natural)—-no, I blame the women behind the mic who are being touted. I always felt that girl groups back then were supportive to the positive female images and ideals and they were never afraid to be themselves. Girls today need that positive energy now and it’s a shame that so many plastic chicks with plastic bags for brains who barely have personalities are “role models”. I’m glad I grew up when I did (90’s child!), but it’s a shame that it seems that ‘girl power’ vibe has been stagnated somewhat now. That’s just my opinion.
