It’s about a young Black girl who saves the life of a KKK member, with her reasons being made by some outside force…and she’s supposed to have special “psychic” powers…

This book is soooo up my alley.

I adore Shirley Jackson. She sheds a light on the awkward and creepy deceptiveness of life. The harsh undertone, the tone people want to ignore. Her stories start off all comfortable and sweet for like a minute and then you’re uncomfortable the rest of the way—-really it’s how life is, it’s really how people are too.

Well, that’s how it seems to me…

Was quite disappointed by my other purchase, Silver Sparrow (so many unanswered questions and just bland delivery). Hope this one holds better as I like Southgate’s writing a lot.

One of the original divas. Once you read this, “divas” of now (yes, even my precious Mariah) just pale in comparison. A wealth of information is in this book. I’ve barely made a dent in it (it’s near 50 chapters…), but tons of stuff has gone on. Very fun read.

Loved loved “Brownies”, it’s an excellent look at racism in an entirely different context…the rest of this book is “meh”. I can’t decide if ZZ is a good writer or not. This book is like those plastic desserts displays you see at a restaurant. They look like the real thing…but they aren’t. Her over usage of similes drives me up the wall and some of her stories leave me with “so what?” after I got through them.

Has anyone else read this? Does anyone feel this way? Or is it just me?
